The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) expresses its full sympathy and solidarity with the workers of the multinational Coca-Cola HBC Greece, who are conducting a titanic struggle for the last 90 days to reopen the factory in Thessaloniki in Northern Greece.
At a time when the working class in Greece is hardly tested by capitalist restructuring and the attacks of the international usurers, the profitable multinational is closing down factories, is canceling departments and lays-off workers, aiming mainly to dissolve any sign of trade union organization within its factories. During the last three years, Coca-Cola dismissed 320 employees and pushes working families into poverty.
The multinational Coca-Cola, having a monopoly position within the Greek market, follows the same practice as the capital in all countries of the world, aiming to load the total burden of the economic crisis exclusively on the backs of workers.
The strikers of the factory in Thessaloniki are showing to all Greek workers the course of resistance and class struggle, against capital’s plots to subjugate the working class and to turn workers into modern slaves with no rights at all.
The WFTU denounces the practices of the multinational to the International Labour Organization (ILO) and to its Trade Unions affiliates around the world calling them to express in practice solidarity with the Greek strikers in Coca-Cola.
