July 15 – National Strike Of Commerce Workers

Δημοσιεύτηκε στις

The workers in commerce of Greece held a national strike on Sunday 15th July. The class unions went on strike against the regulation that allows shops and shopping malls to open 8 Sundays a year, days which were days off for the workers. The Unions, members of the National Secretariat of Commerce-Services of PAME held the strike under a unified call with Associations of Self-employed and the Women’s Federation of Greece.

The class unions held multiform actions, picket lines in big shopping malls and campaigns to inform workers and customers, in big department stores, shopping malls and commercial centres in Athens and in other big cities of Greece

The Unions also condemned the role of the National Federation of Private Employees of Greece (OIYE), member of UNI, whose president is himself a big employer. The Federation, though it issued a Press Release 2 months ago calling for Strike, it did nothing to support and organize the workers struggle. It was nowhere to be found during the strike.

The class unions will continue the struggle with new actions.
