The EUROF of WFTU expresses its solidarity to the workers of Greece and PAME for their National General Strike on September 24.
The workers of Greece go on Strike as they face a new, barbaric attack by the new ND Government, which directly attacks the right of the workers in trade union organization and action, workers’ right to go on strike.
The Greek Government, in order to achieve high growth and profits for the big capital, attacks workers’ unions and their function by wanting to impose electronic registries for all workers who are members of a union. This way, employers will be able to know which workers are union members.
Also the Greek Government wants to impose e-voting for all union decisions. That means that the collective procedures of the unions, their meetings and discussions, will be undermined and abolished. It also opens the path for direct intervention of the employers and their people in the unions.
These measures against workers’ trade union rights and freedoms aim to safeguard the profits and the growth of the big business groups.
These developments are a huge attack, not only against workers of Greece, but also for all workers of Europe. Because if those measures are realized in Greece, they will be forwarded to the other European Countries.
Workers’ rights and freedoms are non-negotiable. Workers’ right to trade union organization and action was gained through hard, bloodshed struggles, with huge sacrifices by the workers.
We support the struggle of the Greek workers and PAME against this brutal antiworkers’ attack.
The EUROF of WFTU expresses its solidarity to the Strike of the workers, the unions of Greece on September 24 and calls all unions of Europe to express their solidarity to PAME with letters, protests and actions in all countries
