The General Council of the PEO expresses the solidarity of the workers of Cyprus with thenational strikecalled by PAME on 9thof April and to the just demands for wage increases and collective agreements, for the protection of workers’ lives and for the exclusive public and free provision of all necessary health and education services.
The harsh attacks on labor and social rights, the policies of deregulation and the undermining of collective labor agreements aimed at profit for the few at the expense of the many widen social inequalities, while the galloping prices and the high cost of living further undermine the living standards of workers and pensioners.
At the same time, the European Union and its NATO allies are announcing new increases in military spending that threaten world peace, but at the same time lead to a new wave of attacks on labor rights and even harsher austerity policies.
The conditions faced by workers today and the common problems make solidarity in the struggles of workers against policies that put profits above lives very important.
