Colleagues,

 The Board of the Trade Union of Workers in Food and Drinks Industries welcomes the success of the many days strike struggle of the workers in the Greek Fish Farming Industry. Collectively and with the slogan “STRIKE FOR OUR RIGHTS” you forced the bosses to back down and commit to most of our demands. We had a positive result during a time when unpaid and delay of the accrued is rule rather than exception.

The company management agreed to the delegation of the TU and the Federation to pay until the end of the current month payroll, and to start and complete the repayment of all the accrued. Also, they accepted a commitment to restore all the laid off workers by covering all the new job vacancies with them.

After these developments the last General Assembly decided to suspend the strike, but at the same time to remain alert. So as the company not to go back on its commitments. “We learned our way” said a colleague in his speech. “It is the path of organized struggle through the Trade Union.”

The successful outcome of the struggle was due to our uncompromising position, and the way the struggle was organized. It is the result of long-term, daily, smaller but persistent conflict in the workplace. Now we understand that no struggle is lost. That the relationship between the boss and the worker is competitive.

The solidarity expressed in many ways to our struggle by the federation, the trade unions and the people of the area is another important factor in our success. The result of our struggle leaves behind an important legacy for all the people of the area, a “lesson” for all: Coalition, organization, unity.
