We strongly condemn the brutal attack by the police on the Teachers’ Demonstration in front of the Greek Prime Minister’s Office on 11th January, injuring many including the functionaries of the Teachers’ Federation and a Communist Party MP.

It is unbecoming of the SYRIZA Government to attack the Teachers who have been subjected to hire and fire methods in the recent period in the Government schools. The national strike of the Teachers is fully justified against the unfair practice persuaded by the Government of Greece. While strongly condemning this barbaric act on the part of the Police, the WFTU Asia Pacific Regional Office urges upon the SYRIZA Government to change their attitude towards the teachers in the schools who are very important source for the future of the younger generation and accord permanency of employment to the teachers in Greece.
