PAME, member of the World Federation of Trade Unions, had organized a sit-in at the Ministry of Labor on 30th of January 2013, protesting against the reductions in wages and pensions announced by the Greek government along with the troika of the IMF, the EU and the Central European Bank.
For this sit-in, 35 members of the board of PAME went on a trial and were acquitted.
Now the trial will be repeated on Thursday 16th of March 2017 for a second time with new fabricated accusations for the same case. According to the current accusations, the trade unionists destroyed the office of the Minister of Labor and they allegedly injured police officers, the security personnel of the Minister etc.
The World Federation of Trade Unions extends its solidarity and internationalism with PAME and demands from the Greek government to definitively stop the prosecution of the 35 trade union leaders, among whom our colleague George Perros, Vice-president of the WFTU and head of PAME, is the first accused person.
The WFTU will continue supporting the struggles of the Greek people and workers who suffer by the anti-labor policies of the European Union, the IMF and of all the governments up to now.
We call on the members and friends of the WFTU to express their solidarity with the 35 trade unionists that will go on trial on Thursday 16 March 2017.
