The Hotel-Tourism-Catering Union of Athens held a protest on Thursday June 7 against the layoff of a young unionist who worked in AUTOGRILL Café in Athens Airport.
Autogrill is an Italian multinational with more than 3000 restaurants and cafes all over the world. The layoff came after the participation of the unionist in the May 1st strike and his call to the workers to participate in the General Strike of May 30. The layoff also followed the initiatives for the creation of a union inside the airport.
The Union held a protest in front of the café inside the International Airport of Athens and called the workers to break the fear created by the employers inside the airport, which is considered a “ghetto” for the workers and union organization. The representatives of AUTOGRILL refused to cancel the layoff and the Union will respond with more actions till the worker returns to his job.
Class Solidarity will be the response to the antiunion tactics of the multinationals
