Portugal CGTP In: We salute the General Strike in Greece

Δημοσιεύτηκε στις

On behalf of CGTP-IN, we vigorously salute the 24 hour general strike called for today, organized by Greek unions throughout all sectors.

Greek government policies continue favoring capital in detriment of workers, while attacking workers rights on wages, collective bargaining and working hours.

The rising cost of living, deteriorating working conditions and the extension and deregulation of working hours, coupled with the continually decreasing purchasing power of Greek workers increase the level of exploitation and enlarges the profits of large companies and economic groups.

The fact that this general strike from all sectors culminates after a number of different struggles of different sectors is a great show of strength and unity.

In Portugal, as in Greece, workers fight for the removal of legal mechanisms that condition and block collective bargaining, cornerstone to the fight for higher wages that can combat the steep increase in cost of living, as well as lower working hours and better working conditions. The urgent need for higher salaries brought thousands from all over the country to the streets of Porto and Lisbon in the 9 th of November, in demonstrations called for by CGTP-IN.

We convey our mosty active and fraternal solidarity with all the workers on strike today and to all the Greek trade union organisations calling for this 24 hour general strike.
