Under the Slogan “We become a link in the chain of struggle” hundreds of artists, singers, actors, musicians, art technicians and workers in arts, demonstrated in front of the Parliament in Athens and other cities of Greece on Thursday, May 7.

The art workers are demanding measures of support to the artists and all art workers who have been greatly affected by the pandemic. The artists noted that along a small number of famous and well paid singers and actors, the majority of the workers in arts are poor and now without jobs, as all theaters, cinemas and art events have been closed or canceled. The protest took place with necessary measures of protection against Covid-19.

The National Union of Musicians, the Union of Actors of Greece, and many more art workers’ Unions have taken a series of initiatives to demand measures of support to the creators, artists and workers in arts since the beginning of the pandemic.

The art workers filled their protest with songs, artworks, and also with the “presence” of some of their most famous colleagues such as Picasso, Brecht, and others who participated in the protest with photos of them and their works as part of the art that will be silenced if artists cannot produce their work.

Under the pressure of the Unions the Government announced that it accepted a number of their demands, but not all of them.
