In 1949, the capitalist states founded NATO in order to overthrow the correlation of forces that had taken place in Europe against imperialism. NATO acted as a mechanism of violence and repression of the labour – popular movement, as an enemy of the right of every people to choose their own path of development.

NATO, in order to justify its existence as an suppression mechanism, in order to support the new imperialist wars, the interventions and in order to justify the so – called “humanitarian wars”, adopted the so – called “terrorism” and “extremism”.

The Summit on November 19 -20 aims :

• to legalize operations against people, in case there is an internal threat of civil authority in a NATO member-state.

• to strengthen the imperialist military operations like these in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan etc.

• to broaden the control of markets in cooperation with other imperialist forces besides NATO.

• to act for the formation of the state apparatus (police and army)

• to expand the so – called “preventive wars”.

PAME calls upon the working class and the other popular strata of our country to contribute to the anti – imperialist struggle and to thicken the lines of the anti- imperialist movement.

PAME expresses its solidarity with the struggle of the CGTP – In of Portugal and support the demonstration against the NATO Summit, which will be held in Lisbon.
