SOLIDARITY WITH THE STRIKING WORKERS OF “HALIVOURGIA”

For 4 months, for over 100 days in Greece, at the Greek Steel plant “Halivourgia”, 400 workers have been on strike against wage cuts and dismissals. At a time when the attacks on the workers of Greece and Europe in general are escalating, the 400 striking workers at “Halivourgia” are an example of working class solidarity and resolve. In an organised and collective way they are continuing a struggle whose victory shall be a victory for all the working class, so that the workers will not pay for the crisis.

The European Regional Office of the WFTU (EUROF), together with the Trade International Union Metal of the WFTU, renewing their solidarity with the heroic struggle of the striking workers for the just cause of the working class against wage cuts and layoffs, has decided the following:

The organisation of an International Action Week from 9 to 14 of March, 2012 in Solidarity with the strikers of “Halivourgia”.

• The European Regional Office calls on all unions, trade unionists, and working people of Europe to organize rallies, speeches and actions outside Greek embassies across Europe.

• At the same time the EUROF calls for the organisation of rallies, speeches and assemblies in the industries of the metal sector across Europe on how to express the solidarity of organized workers in the metals sector with the steel strikers of “Halivourgia”.

• Support the campaign for financial support for the families of the striking workers of “Halivourgia”.

Faced with the onslaught of capital and political forces that support it, the working people have the weapon of organization and solidarity.

We support the struggle of the “Halivourgia” striking workers

for the right to permanent and steady jobs

Against Dismissals and unemployment

Against Wage Cuts
