In a period when the deep crisis attacks the working class and the popular strata of the countries of the European Union and the rivalries among capitalist countries is dangerously intensified, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) organizes the INTERNATIONAL ACTION DAY.

This year’s International Day of Action will take place on October 3, based on the slogan of the WFTU: “Food, clean water, books, medicines and housing is a right for all the workers and the peoples”.

Strikes, demonstrations, protests and gatherings outside parliaments, popular courts, outside the gates of the factories, multinationals etc. will be organized in all continents.

The WFTU chose this content for the International Day of Action on October 3, seeking to rally forces against the antipopular policies of the government, against the big business interests, against monopolies which result is people dying from hunger, thirst and sleeping in the streets, millions of pupils not having books, sick people having no access to medicines.

At the same time, multinationals and monopolies plunder the natural resources of countries. They destroy the living standards of workers and exploit the poor farmers and self-employed people.

International organizations, such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Health Organization (WHO), etc. are controlled by multinationals and their decisions are, openly or secretly, against the workers, the poor farmers, against the peoples.

PAME will participate at the mobilizations of the WFTU on Wednesday October 3, through the following interventions in our country:

1. Demonstration of workers at the American pharmaceutical multinational company Beringer at 12 noon where George Mavrikos, the General Secretary of the WFTU will address a speech.

2. Mass protest demonstration of the Federation of Workers in Drug Industries to the pharmaceutical company Farmasern Lili of American interests.

3. Demonstration of workers at the Greek Company of Water Supply – EYDAP (technical department in Piraeus) in the morning.

4. Protest demonstration of workers at the Greek Company of Water Supply in Thessaloniki (EYATH) at 11a.m.

We will also participate in the demonstration organized by the WFTU outside the offices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome on October 3^rd, at 4p.m. (local time) with the delegation of 100 workers and unemployed people from Athens, North Greece, Peloponnese and from all the sectors. The delegation will depart by bus from Athens, on Monday October 1^st.
