PAME denounces the employers’ intimidation tactics and oppression against the National General Strike, against workers’-strikers and union leaders.

On Friday, May 6, first day of the General Strike, PAME held massive and militant demonstrations all over Greece. At the same time in Athens, 30 unionists, PAME members, among whom the President of the Construction Workers’ Union of Athens were arrested for picketing the strike. Their arrest took place after the demands of the employer in one of the biggest construction sites in Greece and with the use of violence. Also, in the city of Volos, a unionist-member of PAME was arrested and lawsutis were filed by the shipowners to cancel the strike.

Immediately after the arrests, PAME held a massive protest outside the Police Headquarters and succeeded the release of the arrested unionists.

We continue! We are not intimidated! All in the Streets! All in the Strike!

New strike demonstrations are planned for Saturday afternoon, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.
