The Unions of Commerce and Retail Workers from Greece condemn the attack of the Turkish police against workers in the Super Markets of the METRO Group (Real and MediaMarkt), who mobilized after the bankruptcy procedure of REAL.
The workers, who were dismissed without compensation, held on Thursday, November 2, a protest in front of MEDIAMARKT, at Levent/Istanbul, which belongs to the same group, while the building is the headquarters of the company. Strong police forces, acting as employers’ henchmen, had rails around the building to block the mobilization. When the workers tried to get closer to the store and removed the rails, the police responded using chemicals.
The NAKLIYAT Is trade union, member of the WFTU, which organized the mobilization, responded to the repression with a call for a more decisive fight until the vindication of the workers.
The Unions of Commerce and Retail Workers from Greece denounce the METRO Group’s employers and police repression. We express our solidarity with NAKLIYAT Is and the workers and we demand the satisfaction of their fair demands.
