PAME Denounces The Escalating Attempts Of Intimidation By Forces Of Riot Police
Against The Strike In The Factory GENERAL RECYCLING In Ioannina
PAME denounces the escalating attempts of intimidation with violence, riot police and attacks with chemicals against the factory workers GENERAL RECYCLING in Ioannina (city in North-East Greece), who are fighting against redundancies and wage cuts.
The workers who were on picket lines received today, Wednesday, November 11th, a new attack by riot police (preceded respective attacks on Monday and Tuesday with arrests of 4 workers). Riot police used teargas against the strikers and acted once again as a henchman of the employers who send the workers to unemployment and keep only those with hunger-wages.
The Government of SYRIZA carries enormous responsibilities for this escalating intimidation tactics, as it is the Government that ordered the riot police to attack against the workers who fight for their rights. The Government of SYRIZA acts as a henchman for those who lay off workers and butcher the wages.
That the riot police arrested 8 workers –one of them having serious health problems- a few hours before the National-General Strike on Thursday, November 12, is a clear attempt to intimidate the workers
We demand:
The immediate release of the arrested strikers
Withdrawal of the riot police forces
Realisation of the workers demands
We call on all trade union organizations to condemn these practices of the Greek Government and the Employers. To massively express their solidarity to the just struggle of the workers at the General Recycling of Ioannina
