PAME called upon the working class, the self-employed and the small-scale tradesmen to massively participate in the demonstration organized by the trade unions of workers in Commerce and the trade unions of self-employed and small-scale tradesmen on Tuesday July 23 at 7p.m.. Omonoia Sq.
We decisively responded to the effort of the government, the multinationals and the large business groups to abolish one more workers’ achievement, the SUNDAY HOLIDAY.
103 years before the Sunday was achieved to be a day off through hard struggles of the working class and now they want to abolish it, turning the history one century back.
The Sunday, January 3, 1910 was the day that the Sunday holiday was consolidated and implemented for the first time in Greece. It was a great achievement of the working class of our country.
The labor regime that prevailed until December 31, 1909 for all the workers of Greece had many characteristics of the slaves, where they spent their whole lives in factories working for 12 hours, 14 hours and 16 hours nonstop, without a break, without rest, without a day off for rest.
There were workers who had not seen the sun and the light for many years. They left their houses during the night and they return at night. And this was happening for many years nonstop.
The Sunday holiday was a historic victory of the entire working class of our country, a historic station and a starting point of the organized class struggle.
The working class must not be trapped in the artificial dilemmas, because the capital demands do not stop to the workers in commerce, they start from them, while they target to abolish the Sunday holiday in total. Their goal is to attack the working class as a whole, by imposing conditions of compulsory work, similar to those before the abolition of the Sunday holiday.
We gave a common response all the workers, self-employed to the monopolies that devastate the lives of the working class and ruin the tradesmen and craftsmen, increasing their profits every day.
On Tuesday, July 23 we showed to the government, to the big employers, to the European Union that we have the power, we have determination to put obstacles to them. To defend our lives.
Together with our families we participated in the demonstration of the trade unions, of the self-employed.
