PAME participated at the Presidential Council of WFTU in Geneva, June 6-7.
PAME’s intervention by comrade Giorgos Perros, informed about the initiatives and action of PAME in Greece, where today is focused on the preparation of the working class for a militant response to the new memorandum, which is being forwarded by the Greek Government with the European Union, the IMF and the ECB. Also, he informed for the initiatives and actions of PAME for the international coordination, like the international meeting of Workers in Retail on February 2014, and the preparation for an International Meeting of militant trade unions of telecommunications on October 2015. Also, PAME denounced the hypocritical tactics of the Greek Government, which on one hand shows sympathy to the Palestinian people, and on the other hand strengthens its relations with the state of Israel and NATO, through high level meetings, agreements, common military exercises, by giving Greek space for the creation of new NATO basis and more. Also PAME informed about its decision to send financial aid to support the workers and the people of Nepal, who suffer after the earthquake.
The Presidential Council of WFTU welcomed the events and activities of the trade union organisations in honour of the 70 Years of WFTU. The PC approved the action report of the WFTU for the previous period, expressed solidarity with the peoples of Syria, Venezuela, Palestine and others, who are suffering the attacks of imperialism and the PC approved the action plan for the next period. Issues that were highlighted were the positive steps and the growth of WFTU, in addition to the need to strengthen the WFTU in regional and sectoral level, strengthening the expression of Solidarity as well as the condemnation of the role of the ITUC, as an organisation controlled by the multinationals.
The Presidential Council decided a series of events among which Solidarity activities with the people of Syria and Venezuela, as well as the main event in honor of the 70 Year Anniversary of WFTU in Sao Paulo of Brazil. Finally, the Presidential Council accepted the request of COSATU of South Africa, to host the 17th World Trade Union Congress on October, 2016. The 16th Congress of WFTU was hosted by PAME in Athens, with the participation of more than 800 trade union representatives from more than 120 countries.
