Mayors in the Service of the Multinationals Prosecute the Workers of Coca Cola Thesaloniki

PAME denounces the unacceptable decision of the Mayor of Thermi in the Thessaloniki region who ordered the prosecution against the Trade Union of the workers in the multinational Coca-Cola on the pretext of having ‘’ illegal constructions’’ at the gate of the factory!

The workers of Coca-Cola, who face layoffs and wage cuts are in a long-lasting struggle for their right to work! They are in conflict with a multinational that counts huge profits by imposing wage cuts and lay-offs! During their struggle that lasts for more than 2 years, the workers stand steady at the factory gates every day. After the employer’s intimidation practices reached a dead-end, i.e. dismissals, lawsuits etc, Coca-Cola brought into action the Mayor of Thermi who gave the order at the City services to certify that the areas used by the militant workers of Coca-Cola (for protection from cold weather and rain) are ‘’ illegal constructions’’!

The City’s report is a proof of the anti-workers role that the local authorities play, who accept as legal superstructures hotels, industries etc that destroy the environment and at the same time they, in the service of the multinationals, prosecute the workers who struggle because they placed an umbrella to protect themselves from the rain. Based on the report, they even call on the Trade Union of the workers of Coca-Cola to pay a fine of 2,100 Euros!

PAME expresses its Solidarity for the just struggle of the workers and redundant workers of Coca-Cola. We call on the trade union organizations to massively denounce the new attempt to prosecute and criminalize their struggle.
