Stateless nations’ class oriented trade unions LAB Basque Country, CUT, Galiza, Intersindical Canaria, Intersindical CSC and COS from Països Catalans, affiliated to the World Federation of Trade Unions, show our solidarity and support to the Regional Trade Union Center of Ioannina in Greece.
We have received the news of several cases of police repression on November 26th, when thousands of workers took to the streets supporting the general strike and making use of the right to strike.
We denounce the authoritarianism, intimidation and repression showed by the Police Department against the Regional Trade Union Center of Ioannina, against workers’ unions and other organizations during the day of the National strike on November 26th. The objective of these repression is to silence the demands of the people for decent health, live and job conditions.
From the People’s Coordination of the World Federation of Trade Unions demands the end of the fierce repression against the trade union and social movement in Greece. We want to emphasize that these events are taking place in a context where the Greek government tries to approve a package of antilabour
measures that will make the working and living conditions of the Greek working class worse.
Therefore, we finish the statement demanding an end to the repression in Greece and asking for the release of all people who have been arrested. We send all our support and solidarity to the class oriented trade union movement in Greece that is fighting for the rights of the working class and we will continue working together to not only resist this neo-liberal offensive but to advance in the construction of a new model that puts life in the middle.
