We workers at the factory Norrland foundry, who financially supported the striking steel workers at the steelworks Ellinihi Haliverja in 2012, have now been told that 24 of the strike leaders were sentenced to nearly two years in prison.

The strike was widely reported in Greece and internationally, as it simultaneously turned against the EU and IMF.s method to place the blame for banks’ speculative crash on the working people.

The verdict against the 24 steel workers is an attempt to scare workers into silence so that they do not even dare to think the thought about fighting for their right.

It is gratifying that the Greek people despite oppression and threats do not let themselves be intimidated into silence. On April 9, the same day as the steel workers were sentenced to jail the latest general strike to place. The radical union front PAME organized strike demonstrations in 60 locations in the country.
