“To restore confidence in markets does not depend on austerity, but on the confidence of the people and the support of the European Central Bank. Growth and employment are needed to restore confidence in the European Union. “
These are not words belonging to a European Commission spokesperson or a declaration of the European Summit. These are not words of Bussiness Europe or of the European Central Bank. This is a part of an announcement of the ETUC (European Trade Union Confederation).
In this context, and asking for measures to be taken regarding youth employment (like the plan of the overexploitation of the young people recently presented by the three-party coalition government in Greece) the ETUC organized a demonstration on 14 March in Brussels. They do not want workers simply watching. They want workers on their knees begging for slaughter. Unemployment plaguing the youth in Greece and across Europe is the result of policies that these forces have supported.
And for anyone who still has doubts about the role of the ETUC, the ETUC clarifies everything by stating that :
“Based on industrial relations and the social dialogue, social protection and public services, the European social model supports and does not hamper competitiveness and growth.” The ETUC is an EU and monopolies’ institution to ensure the subjugation of workers to the need of the European monopolies for bigger profits.
For this, as they did last year, the ETUC after the militant photographs taken before the EU summit, after the Summit, will wear “its best outfit” and take part in the meeting with the EU and the Bussiness Europe to decide jointly how to attack the rights of workers for the profits of the monopolies.
The fact that GSEE has invited the General Secretaries of the ITUC and the ETUC as official guests at the 35th congress, simply confirms the role of the leadership of GSEE too.
There can be no development in favour of both the monopolies and the workers. Workers, wherever and whenever accepted this logic of common interests of workers and capitalists, have only defeats, salary reductions, lay-offs, new demands of the employers to count.
Development for workers can only be in conflict with the interests of the EU-monopolies. By weakening the governmental and employers’ trade unionism. Through massification of the trade unions, in class direction in Greece and throughout Europe. By strengthening the movement for disengagement from the EU, with people power in every country.
