The Department of International Relations of  PAME calls upon all trade-union organizations of workers to express their solidarity with the Turkish fighter and academic Izge Gunal and to demand his immediate re-hirement.

We strongly protest against penalization of trade-union action and strangle resistance against privatization of Universities and education also promoted in Turkey.

Izge Gunal is known in Turkey and abroad. He is a distinguished Professor of Traumatology and orthopaedics at the University of Dokuz Eylut and he was dismissed on 29/9/2006 because he has played a leading role in the campaign for the re-hirement of 213 workers dismissed.

Gunal had become a target of the government and reactionary circles in Turkey because of his interventions. He was opposed in the “flexible labor relations” of Professors in the University and the supposed “evaluation of Professors with criterion the “connection” of academic work with the capitalist economy.
