MARCH 8, 2012
Working – unemployed -self-employed – farmers – young – immigrant women,
On March 8, International Women’s Day, we honour the women who are workers, self-employed, farmers, young, immigrants, who together with the youth are the first victims of the capitalist crisis and who during the previous period stood up against the brutal attack of the bourgeoisie on our rights, defying the climate of fatalism, the employers’ terrorism, the false dilemmas of the co-governance and their European partners.
The meaning and the content of the International Women’s Day, is expressed today through the participation of women of the working class and the other popular strata, first of all, in the strikes and the militant initiatives in workplaces, but also through their participation in the multiform mobilisations of the trade unions, women’s associations, popular committees and struggle committees in every city, district and neighbourhood.
With the struggles of today we honour the March 8th, the International Women’s Day, as a day of women’s contribution to the class-oriented and social struggles. We remember this day, as a day marked by the deaths of women who contributed together with working men to the conquests and from this point of view; we address a call to all the women of the working class and the popular strata:
Women you must take position in the struggle
for a future free from exploitation of man by man.
Especially in the today’s conditions, there is no room for complacency and waiting. The co-governance of PASOK (social-democrats), N.D. (conservatives), the troika, E.U., monopolies have targeted and are sweeping with inconceivable fury every working and popular right which is gained through blood and struggles. The measures, which are like fire, do not have an end. They will not stop if we do not stop them. They intend to get us to the bottom. They want for our children and for us to become impoverished, so that the rotten parasitical capitalist system will be maintained, and among others with the drugs freely distributed.
It is obvious that the future they plan for us does not have anything to do with the future we must demand for our families and for us. This future does not have anything to do with the future we can build for our children, provided that we will get rid of the predators of the capital.
We will not surrender to a future where unemployment and wages of 400€ will prevail. Where Health, Education and Welfare, rest, leisure time will be benefits for the few, while they will be luxury items for the people and will be extremely expensive. Where maternity will be a privilege for the few and the young couples will hardly decide to have a family under the insecurity for the future and with the fear of poverty. Where children will faint in schools from under-nourishment.
We give the struggle through our trade unions, the struggle committees in workplaces or places of studies, Popular Committees and Women’s Associations in our neighbourhoods, with determination, courage, faith in our strength and our rights.
We do not accept the policies that deprive our right to a decent life with jobs for everyone and decent wages and pensions, with free and high-quality benefits from an exclusively public system of Health and Welfare, free Education for every young individual without the obligation for the popular families to pay a fortune for the education of their children. A life where accommodation will be guaranteed for every family, as well as good quality and adequate food will be also guaranteed and the free access to sport and culture. A life where every young couple will see the perspective to make their own family with optimism and desire.
For a future like this we must struggle. We have experience. We know the way; the latest strike mobilisations, the strike in the Greek Steel Industry and in many other workplaces, the mass demonstrations of condemnation of the policy which supports monopolies showed us the way.
This is the way we choose, we go along with the forces of resistance, counterattack and class conflict, the forces of All Workers Militant Front (PAME), Panhellenic Antitrust Coalition of Tradesmen – Craftsmen (PASEVE), All Farmers Militant Coalition (PASY), Students’ Front of Struggle (MAS), Federation of Women in Greece (OGE), against the sold out trade union leaderships of the employers’ and governmental trade unionism.
We know that this path in not strewn with flowers, but it is beautiful and the only one which can take us out from the mire of the antipopular brutality. It is the only realistic solution, so that the people will take the power into their own hands, will plan the economy based on their own needs, released from the parasites of the big capital that live at our expense. Only like this we will live the future we deserve.
