The 18th Congress of WFTU Concluded with Success and Militant Spirit

The 18th Congress of the WFTU, hosted in Rome, Italy by the USB, concluded on Sunday, May 8 with militant spirit and optimism.

The Congress concluded with the election of the new leadership of the WFTU, Presidential Council, Secretariat and General Secretary.

In the bodies of the WFTU, a renewal of almost 30% was expressed, indicating the rallying of new unions and trade unionists from all continents to the WFTU.

General Secretary was elected Pampis Kyritsis, former General Secretary of the PEO Cyprus and vice-president of the WFTU for a number of years

PAME was elected as Deputy Secretary General,

 while Mzwandile Michael Makwayiba from NEHAWU, South Africa was re-elected President of the WFTU.

The Congress also decided that the central offices of WFTU will remain in Athens while the European Regional Office of PSO will now have its headquarters in Italy under the responsibility of USB Italy. The Congress closed its work with the International.
