The “new wind” blowing in Europe blows against the rights and achievements of workers. As stated by Herman Van Rompuy, president of the European Union, one of the topics to be added to discussion at the next summit will be reforms of pension systems.
The workers in our country know firsthand what these reforms mean. They accelerate antilabour changes in social security systems, this means, crushing social security and pension rights with a direct time frame for their implementation.
The workers can draw conclusions and not waste time waiting for these reforms. Pension reform means new cuts in pensions, further increases in the age limits and on the other hand new cuts in employers´ social contributions. Their policy is class policy and the answer must be class-oriented. The sooner we face the fear and the threats by the government and put aside the illusions of SYRIZA (leftists) and others, that positive developments happen in Europe that simply offer space and time for the attack to be completed, the sooner and more accurately we will block the new storm.
The workers in each industry, in each workplace must join the ranks of unions. They must isolate the employers’ and governmental trade unionism that gives allegiance to the bosses. The slogan “law is the worker’s right” will be judged on the streets, in factories, in schools and neighborhoods, with PAME as vanguard.
