On Saturday, October 24 and Sunday October 25, took place the 10th Congress of the National Federation of Workers in Textile of Greece (OEKIDE). The Congress, which was held under the conditions and the limits because of the pandemic, discussed the experience of the unions and the conclusions from their action, but also the aim of strengthening the forces of the Federation in the face of the battles of the next period.
The Congress body ratified the decision of the outgoing administration to respond with a strike to the anti-labor attack of the government and the employers on workers’ labor and insurance rights.
The work of the Congress was welcomed on behalf of the WFTU by its General Secretary, George Mavrikos. As he reminded, in March 2020 OEKIDE together with trade unions of the sector from 20 countries proceeded to the establishment of an organization within the WFTU, TUI TEXGAL. Thus, among the tasks discussed by the Congress were the strengthening of solidarity and better coordination with workers in countries where thousands of workers in the industry are concentrated.
Giota Tavoulari welcoming the Congress on behalf of the Executive Secretariat of PAME pointed out the contribution of the Federation to the orientation of the workers’ struggle, to the confrontation with the employers, to the trade union organization of the migrant workers.
