Successful Seminar of PAME on the Fight for Collective Contracts

The Executive Secretariat of PAME held, on Monday, June 6, a successful Seminar under the topic “The Fight For Collective Contracts”.

The Seminar was attended by more than 500 Presidents and General Secretaries of the Trade Unions of Athens, as well the leaderships of a number of National Trade Union Federations.

In addition to the Introduction of the Executive Secretariat there were specific presentations on the situation of wages in public sector, the role of the so called “individual’s associations”, the negative role of the union forces which are controlled by the government and the employers, the negative reforms in the legislative framework of the Collective Contracts, the effects on women and on social services from the attack on Collective Contracts, the situation for the youth and the flexible forms of employment, apprenticeship programs, etc., as well as the experience of organizing the struggle for the Collective Contracts in the construction industry, where unemployment is extremely high. Important was the experience transferred in the Seminar of the successes that were made and the Collective Contracts that were signed against the negative conditions. Also, a special presentation was made by Metin Ebeturk, President of Sosyal Is Union from Turkey on their struggle for Collective Contract against the multinational Leroy Merlin.

As it was highlighted, the goal of the Seminar was to assist the unions and the Federations in the preparation of the Struggle for signing Collective Contracts.
