Greek Maritime Unions And WFTU Act For The Protection Of Maritime Workers And Demand Immediate Measures

The Maritime Unions PEMEN, STEFENSON, PEEMAGEN, members of PAME after information received by the crew of the M/V ship “Ocean Glory” of the shipping company NICOLAKIS SHIPPING S.A, with the support of WFTU held an official protest, on Tuesday, May 24 and demanded the direct intervention of the authorities for the solution of the issues mentioned below:

The crew members of the ship, which is located in the repair pier of Drapetsona, Greece due to engine damage, are facing serious problems.

Particularly:

  1. The Company has repeatedly with promises delayed to pay the salaries of the 11 crew members (3 Ukranians, 2 Russians, 6 from Ghana). Now they must receive their salaries of 5 months of work.

  2. 2 members of the crew of the engine are working 12 hours every day for 5 months in violation of international regulations for the “hours of rest” while the company is paying no overtime.

  3. Four members of the crew have asked for months their repatriation and their request has not been attained until today.

The Maritime Unions PEMEN, STEFENSON, PEEMAGEN, members of PAME and the WFTU demand the immediate intervention of the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Maritime of Greece for the solution of the problems faced by the seafarers of M/V “Ocean Glory”.

Multinationals Persecute Trade Unionists

PAME denounces WIND Telecom Multinational for the lawsuit against the Board Member of the Athens Trade Union of Workers in Telecom and IT (SETIP) and cadre of PAME, Olga Koliousi. The lawsuit aims to criminalize trade union action and intimidate the workers in the multinational company.

The multinational WIND sued comrade Koliousi in 2009 during a strike against the layoff of another trade unionist. Apart from the lawsuit, WIND attempted to also layoff Olga Koliousi, but they were forced to recall the layoff due to the action of trade unions and the great solidarity which had been expressed in Greece and internationally.

Six years later and few days after 1st May and the huge demonstrations which took place in Greece against the new antiworkers’ measures that SYRIZA’s government legislated, the multinationals want to intimidate the workers and create obstacles in the trade union action. They want to abolish trade union rights and freedoms.

As the lawsuit is to go on trial on Friday, May 28, the Athens Trade Union of Workers in Telecom and IT (SETIP) calls for a Protest Rally in Solidarity with the trade unionist in front of the court and strike in WIND Company.

Demostraciones militantes y masivas de PAME contra a los nuevos impuestos antiobreros

 

PAME realizó demostraciones masivas y militantes en muchas ciudades del país en el domingo contra la nueva ley que impone el gobierno griego y la UE- FMI, que aumentará los impuestos para la clase obrera y el pueblo mientras que al mismo tiempo, proporcionará nuevos beneficios y exenciones de impuestos a los capitalistas y la gran capital. La militancia y la masividad de las manifestaciones demuestran que el movimiento sindical de clase de Grecia ha dado pasos con las luchas del último periodo en la adhesión de nuevas fuerzas y mantener la militancia contra el derrotismo y el compromiso.

PAME held massive and militant demonstrations in many Greek cities on Sunday against the new law, imposed by the Greek Government and the EU-IMF, which will raise the taxes for the working class and the people, while at the same time, will provide new benefits and tax exemptions to the capitalists, the big capital. The militancy and massiveness of the demonstrations show that the class trade union movement in Greece has made steps with the struggles of the last period in the rallying of new forces and keeping militancy against defeatism and compromise.
