The Committee of Struggle against the Greece-USA Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement – MDCA,(which is formed by PAME, the Greek Committee for Peace-EEDYE, class unions, students’ and peoples’ associations) welcomes the big demonstrations held in Athens and across the country, on the occasion of the US Secretary of State’s, Pompeo, visit, and reaffirms the opposition of the Greek people against this dangerous agreement and the politics of ND government, who renew, reinforce and expand the dangerous net of US- NATO military bases in our country.

The government claims about alleged “benefits” from this dangerous agreement are false. The investments they are talking about are meant to further strengthen the USA-NATO military presence and the big business groups. They have nothing to do with the real needs and interests of the people. At the same time, the arguments about the “NATO umbrellas” that guarantee “security”, “stability”, “protection from Turkey” are shattered by historical experience, but also by the reality, after the “green light ”from the USA for a new Turkish intervention in northern Syria, against the Syrian people.

The ND government and SYRIZA – who are celebrating for the visit of Pompeo – have huge responsibilities – as well as all those who are still trying to reassure people and acquit the US-NATO imperialism, which is turning our country into a base of war, but at the same time a magnet for attacks.

We denounce, condemn and underline the responsibilities of the government for trying to repress the antiimperialist demonstration, which took place in front of the statue of the killer-President of the USA, H. Truman, as well as all the dirty mechanisms that attempt to target militants of the people’s movement. Intimidations will not pass!

We continue our vigorous and multiform struggle for the next period through meetings, discussions, events, mobilizations in every area, in order to inform our people widely, to expose the dangerous USA-NATO plans and the deepening of our involvement in them. To demand to rip out all US-NATO bases in Greece. The campaign to collect signatures against the Greece-USA Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement – MDCA, must reach in every neighbourhood, in every workplace, in every school and university, everywhere!
