The coalition government of Nea Dimokratia and PASOK filed a new bill for the Public Power Corporation PPC(DEI).

The bill states:

• The creation of a subsidiary company, the so-called “small-PPC”, which will get 30% of production and sales of the current PPC and then will be sold to monopoly groups

• “Small PPC” will produce electricity around of about 2.318 MW, and will get from PPC a clientele of 2 million residential and industrial consumers and 3,000 employees, currently working in PPC.

• The sale of another part (17%) of the parent company in a “Strategic investor” will follow.

The pro EU parties do not say a word about the decisions in made within the EU.

The governmental and employers’ trade unionism in PPC is equally responsible for this developments, since it has helped with the promotion of privatisation policies beginning in 1999. From what has been done up to now, in terms of the privatizationof PPC, the working strata have been experiencing the effects, suffering from with huge increases in electricity bills.

The privatization of energy concerns every worker in our country(Currentlyover 350,000 households are without electricity).

It concerns the workers in PPC, who suffer from the demolition of their labour rights, the abolition of steady jobs, the flourishing of contractors, where there are hunger wages and unpaid work.

The solution for the benefit of the people is the proposal of the class oriented trade union movement, of PAME; that is: electricity is a social good, and this is against the EUand its guidelines. The solution is to create a single exclusively public power corporation that will serve all the needs of the people, will plan energy projects in a nationwide design, according to scientific guidelines, based on the needs and potential of the country.

In this path of development in favour of the people, at the same time we can ensure: cheap electricity for the people, labour rights of workers in the energy sector, reduction of the energy dependence of the country, energy efficiency for the development of all productive forces.

With this line of struggle, the struggle of workers PPC, today, can gain the solidarity of the working classes; it can have a victorious perspective and it can prevent the anti-labour government projects.
