LAB solidarity with national protest day in Perú

LAB, Basque national and class oriented trade union, affiliated to World Federation of Trade Unions, sends its solidairty to Confederación General de Trabajadores del Perú (CGTP) and to the working class from Peru, facing the national protest day called for today November 24th.

The crisis we are suffering today is the result of neoliberal policies expressed in structural deficiencies in the health, education, economic and other systems, which result in thousands of deaths and millions of unemployed during the pandemic. This situation, which is being repeated in Peru, Latin America and of course in the Basque Country and Europe, has clear political responsibles and does not respond to chance.

The appointment of Manuel Merino as President of Peru, in a context of social repression, and the subsequent appointments of various ministers, make it clear that we are dealing with a government at the service of the management and that we are therefore dealing with a right-wing government.

Although we are separated by thousands of kilometres of physical distance rather than emotional distance, social and political realities are much closer than we think. Here too, violence and sexual abuse against women has been aggravated by the pandemic; here too, social policies are needed to guarantee a life for all people, starting with people without economic income; here too, economic policies are needed that serve the needs of the people and not the interests of capital; here too, there is a need for quality public services that guarantee not only a decent service to citizens but also decent working conditions for those who perform them, and of course here too, there is a need for a democratic framework that guarantees a programme of government at the service of the working class and the popular classes.

For all this, from the LAB joins and supports the national day of protest called for today November 24th in Peru. We need a Peru on movement and fighting in the streets, we need countries and nations on movement countries that in the face of difficulties continue to advance towards the liberation of the people and social justice. We urgently need to activate a social struggle where the slogan is to deepen democracy and social justice in order to banish neo-liberalism once and for all.
