On April 6th the working class in Greece is called to a general strike and LAB wants to express from Euskal Herria all its solidarity with the working class in Greece and especially with the PAME trade union in these important moments for the working class.
In this context of crisis and globalisation of injustice, the demands of the general strike are very clear: the non-participation of Greece in imperialist wars, the denunciation of rising inflation and prices, the defence of workers’ rights and the demand for collective bargaining that implies wage increases.
There are many challenges ahead of us. The events of the last few weeks show that a new paradigm and a new world is opening up, and that at the same time the changes are not only necessary, but unstoppable. Therefore, the main challenge and struggle that we, the peoples and the working class, have at the moment is whether these changes go in the direction of strengthening this capitalist, patriarchal and biocidal system, or whether we start to build a new model that puts the rights of all people and all peoples, the sustainability of the planet and of life, in the middle.
In this context of imperialist wars, we want to demand a new model of international relations based on eco-independence as a condition for existence and at the same time for a transformative horizon. The peoples and the working class have nothing to gain in this international logic, and much to lose in this logic of wars that generate destruction and precarisation of life.
The same people who until recently told us that capitalism had no alternative are now telling us that capitalism must be re-founded. But the reality is that capitalism, as an unjust political and economic system, has long since failed. It is in this international context that the neoliberal model that today dominates the walled Europe.
Therefore, we hope that the general strike will be a demonstration of the Greek working class that, in the face of the current precariousness of life, will help to build alternatives that put the rights of all people and all peoples at the centre.
