Dear Comrades,
As Nakliyat-İş Union, we warmly and resolutely salute the general strike to be held in Greece on February 28 under the leadership of PAME. This strike is part of the struggle for justice on the second anniversary of the train crash in Tempe, which claimed the lives of 57 people, most of them young students. We wholeheartedly support your demand for the prosecution of those responsible and the revelation of the real causes of this tragedy.
Their profits or our lives? The clear answer you give to this question is a turning point in the struggle of the international working class. We stand with you in this rightful and honorable fight against the sacrifice of our lives for the profit greed of a handful of parasitic
capitalists.
The crime in Tempe is the result of privatization, subcontracting, workforce reduction, and the view of safety measures as mere costs. The responsibility of companies like Hellenic Train and OSE, governments, and the European Union in these policies is evident. As a result of these policies, not only the railways but all public services disregard the safety of our lives.
The courageous struggle of PAME and the Greek working class is becoming the voice of workers worldwide. The general strike on February 28 is a symbol of resistance for justice, safe working conditions, the protection of public services, and against privatization policies.
We have previously taken concrete actions in solidarity with PAME, such as our solidarity actions alongside COSCO workers in Turkey. PAME has also organized many actions in solidarity with Working Class of Turkey. These actions demonstrate the strength of our ongoing solidarity. Moving forward, we will continue to stand united in the fight for workers’
rights and dignity.
Our lives are not a cost! We must stand shoulder to shoulder against the sacrifice of human life, health, and safety for corporate profits. We declare our solidarity with the rightful strike of the Greek working class on February 28 and once again express our belief that this struggle will achieve victory.
Long live the solidarity of the international working class!
Long live PAME’s struggle!
Long live the WFTU!
