The 40th Congress of the Federation of Private Employees of Greece-OIYE was completed with a large participation in the elections for the election of a new administration with hundreds of delegates giving a militant presence. This is the largest FEDERATION in the Private Sector in Greece.
With the completion of the elections, the list representing class-oriented unions -DAS- won ALL 21 seats in the new Administration!
This result took place after the outcoming leading group (a coalition of unionists from SYRIZA and the ND Government) withdrew when they found that they could not impose a fake correlation as they had planned, by imposing illegal and degenerative procedures.
Specifically, according to the results announced by the electoral commission, the DAS list received 233 votes, while there were 5 white votes and one invalid vote.
It is noteworthy that despite the withdrawal of the SYRIZA – ND forces, which led the Federation before the Congress, in the end, more than half of the delegates participated in the proceedings and voting, coming from 75% of all unions on the Congress register.
This is a result that marks a major victory for all workers and their unions in a sector where a real labour jungle prevails. It is a victory in the struggle for workers’ unions – not unions controlled by the employers and the Government.
After the election result, the new leadership met and issued the following statement
Change of page in the Federation of Private Employees of Greece!
The newly elected Administration of the Federation of Private Employees of Greece salutes all the unions – members of the Federation, the thousands of workers who in the past months participated in the procedures by sending their representatives to the 40th Congress.
It salutes the hundreds of delegates who came to Athens from all over the country on 23 and 24 November, participating in the works, organising a democratic congress, with meaningful procedures and a lively dialogue.
We are changing page, we are going on the counterattack!
Following the result of the elections concluded on Sunday 24 November, the largest Federation of the Private Sector, representing tens of thousands of workers, is turning a new page!
Our congress sent a hopeful message to the entire working class at a time when the attack on our rights is being generalised by the government and the employers, when workers in all sectors of the private sector are experiencing the erosion of labour rights, the attack on wages, flexible hours, insecurity and half-work – half-life.
In these circumstances, the new Board of the Federation makes it clear that no union is to spare!!
The next day of hard struggles for our rights, the confrontation with the employers in every workplace requires all forces to be in the fight.
All the unions, with even more members to stand in the front line, with the Federation to organise the struggle in all sectors.
Massively, militantly, class-oriented and united, the Unions and the Federation can do it!
We can write new pages in the long 100-year history of the Federation of Private Employees of Greece!
All in the struggle, all in the Unions, none alone!”
