Thousands of working men and women, pensioners, unemployed, young people, immigrants, self-employed, farmers, women of the popular strata decisively – militantly participated in the strike on February 23 and the strike demonstrations all over Greece. They responded to the call of PAME, PASEVE (self-employed people), PASY (farmers), MAS (students), OGE (women organizations) and they sent their response to the government, capital, the E.U. and to all the political forces that support this antilabor policy.
This was the message that was sent from all the strike demonstrations across the country. The demonstrations on February 23 were the biggest of the recent years despite the bad weather (rain, snow, very cold etc.). The working class demonstrated in order not only to change an antipopular government, but rather to permanently change the class which has the power. So that the working class will have the power in its hands.
The strikers gave a tough struggle outside the gates of hundreds of factories and enterprises against the employers’ terrorism and the efforts of the governmental and employers’ trade unionism to undermine the strike.
In Athens, tens of thousands of workers from all branches of the private and public sector, students and pupils, women, self-employed people, farmers, immigrants, pensioners went out on the streets to demonstrate outside the Parliament with the slogan of disobedience and insubordination to the antipopular policy and laws.
The next mass mobilization of our movement will be the demonstration in Athens and all the squares of the prefectures of Greece on March 10. These events will be the continuation and escalation of our action and are dedicated to the World Women’s Day on March 8, honoring the working women of New York, who died in the struggle for the conquest of the rights of women and the working class, for the social liberation in 1857.
