16 October World Action Day of Workers in Food Industry

Food is a Human Right

Not an area for profits for the capitalists

In the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Food TUI of  WFTU in Paris that took place on 4-7 July 2019, we decided that we will organize a World Action Day on the 16th of October, the World Food Day of the United Nations, raising the issue that

Food is a Human Right

Not an area for profits for the capitalists

Today, the peoples are living the devastating consequences for the food of people that capitalism is creating, who is the greatest obstacle for billions of people experiencing hunger and poverty.

The planet today produces enough food for 9 billion people, more than enough to feed the population of 7 billion people. Despite this plethora of food production, despite the fact that half of the food produced annually is thrown away and never ends in a human stomach but in a trash can, the problem of hunger cannot be solved because in this capitalistic economic system, food isn’t a commodity but a merchandise.  Food, instead of being an absolute social necessity and a human Right, is a area of profit for the capitalists. It’s is clear, that the anti-hunger movement can only have an anti-capitalist and anti-monopoly character and direction. To classy with the god of profit, that exceeds everything else in importance in this system, hunger, health and life of the people.

In this context, in preparation for the World Action Day on the 16th of October, Federation of the Workers in Food and Beverages Industry in Greece will take a series of Actions on this day, in big monopolies and food industries, while attempting to open the discussion in and out of the workplaces, with meetings and visits to workplaces until that day.

It is crucial that the workers respond together to the monopolies
