With the participation of trade unions from many European countries, started yesterday on January 29, the Conference of the European Regional office of the WFTU in Creteil Val de Marne, France.
Moments of emotion and uplifting of struggle were expressed with the applause of the union representatives when the PAME Secretariat informed about the magnificent demonstrations of the people of Greece that took place in order not to cover up the railway crime of Tempi by the government, the EU and the business groups and the decision to have a nationwide strike on 28 February with the slogan “either their profits or our lives”.
Correspondingly, the same warm applause greeted the statement of the representative of the Intercindical Valenciana union, who presented the solidarity of the people of Spain with the residents of Valencia who were hit by the deadly floods three months ago, causing 229 people to lose their lives as a result of the policy that considers the protection of human life as a cost.
A special moment was the statement of the representative of the Palestinian unions, who presented the struggle of the Palestinian people against the genocide they face from the murderous state of Israel and the struggle they are fighting for the liberation of the Palestinian state from the Israeli occupation.The Conference hall was flooded with applause, Palestinian flags and it was vibrated by the slogan “freedom in Palestine”.Also trade union representatives expressed with slogans and pickets, their solidarity with French unionists,who are being persecuted for expressing their solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people.
In the speech of PAME was conveyed through the experience of the struggles of the workers of our country, the effort to strengthen the struggle centered on the sectors and workplaces, to strengthen the organization and unity of the workers against the imperialist wars and the attack by the governments, the EU and the business groups. They highlighted the undermining role of the employers’ and governmental trade unionism, the GSEE and ADEDY and their effort to integrate popular discontent within the framework of governmental alternation and social dialogue. The effort made by PAME was highlighted to organize mass nationwide and sectoral struggles with the slogan “Give money for wages, health and education and not for the war slaughterhouses”, strengthening the struggles against the war preparation and economy, against economic sacrifices and the restriction of the trade union rights of the workers, with the aim of strengthening the anti-capitalist – anti-monopoly struggle in Greece.
Today, January 30 the works of the conference will be concluded with the election of the new European Regional Office of WFTU.
