The right to permanent and stable work with full rights, without terms and conditions, was at the heart of the strike given on Monday, April 10 by workers in the local authorities with national strike.
A right that has been crushed for years by the policies of the ND, PASOK and SYRIZA governments, which generalized the flexible, casual work and contracts with an expiration date, creating a labour hostage-situation for thousands of workers.
In Athens, the Attica OTA union of workers in Local Authorities held a series of actions during the strike and a massive rally that went to the Ministry of Interior to protest, only to find out that the political leadership was absent.
The workers decided to continue the march in the streets of the area, but police set up successive barriers with riot police, even using tear gas to prevent the demonstration. Against the intimidations the demonstrators reached the Greek Parliament.
The OTA Attica Trade Union demands: No dismissals. No layoffs. All contract workers must be reinstated without conditions, with state funding.
