The Regional Trade Union Centres and the National Workers’ Federations of Greece who sign this document denounce the persecution of Jean-paul Delescaut, General Secretary of the UD Nord CGT, France, in an attempt to silence the trade unions fighting for peace, against imperialism.
On 20 October 2023, at 6 a.m., Jean-Paul Delescaut, General Secretary of the UD Nord CGT, France, was arrested, after a large number of police forces were sent at his home. He was then taken to the police station in Lille, where he was charged with ‘incitement to terrorism’ and ‘incitement to racial hatred’. He is now being prosecuted and is due to appear before the criminal court in Lille on 28 March 2024.
His prosecution is another intimidating, witch-hunt, an extremely serious and dangerous attack on the democratic rights and freedom of expression of workers and trade unions. Such persecution and attempts at silencing are being attempted by governments, NATO and the EU in many countries.
Attempts to persecute and stigmatize those who are fighting against the genocide of the Palestinian people with accusations of allegedly “supporting terrorism” or “inciting racial hatred” are both hypocritical and dangerous.
Trade unions fighting for working class rights always fight for the rights of all workers regardless of religion, nationality, origin, gender, or race.
We fight against the racism, xenophobia and hatred fostered by the exploiters of workers to divide and exploit peoples.
We denounce the hypocrisy of those who murder peoples for the profits of the few and persecute working class militants to impose silence in the face of the crimes and genocides of the imperialist governments.
The militant trade unions do not identify the people with their governments, nor do they accept to remain silent and inactive in the face of injustice.
We fight for peace and friendship of the peoples, with a free and independent Palestine in accordance with the UN resolutions.
We denounce the prosecution against the General Secretary of the UD Nord CGT, France as unjust and unacceptable.
We denounce the attempt to silence the voices opposing the genocide of the Palestinian people, the attempt to terrorize the workers and silence the French fighting unions!
We fully support the UD Nord CGT, and we demand that the prosecution against its general secretary and all trade union militants cease.
