PAME from Greece expresses solidarity with the strike actions launched on September 14 by workers in the major US auto industries, in particular in the factories of Ford, General Motors and Stellantis monopolies.
This is one of the most important strike actions in recent decades in one of the most historic industrial sectors in the United States with thousands of workers. And it comes as an important new step in the major mobilizations, actions and strikes of workers at AMAZON, STARBUCKS, screenwriters, actors and many other industries.
It is taking place in monopoly groups, multinational giants, which for years have been subsidized with billions of dollars by the US Governments, that is, with the money of the workers themselves. Corporations that count huge profits but in the midst of an explosion of poverty and huge increase in cost of living for the people they refuse to give real raises to their workers.

The strike actions are taking place under the enormous pressure and action of the workers themselves, who after years are overcoming logics of waiting, of delegating and “social partnership” that are systematically cultivated. It is a strike that begins against the efforts of “enemies and friends”, up to the last minute to prevent a major strike in US heavy industry. Typical is the attitude of well-paid union leaders who, up to the last minute, did everything possible to prevent a strike from taking place. While even now they are putting obstacles in the way of its generalization and escalation.
The strike started despite the negative situation of the US trade union movement, the chronic inertia, the cultivation of the logic of class cooperation, but also the discrimination and divisions between workers, young and old, though contractors or not. Divisions that even the US unions themselves have accepted and in many cases cultivate and are a major obstacle to the class unity and common struggle of the workers, to the strengthening, escalation and effectiveness of the struggle. This is why the slogan “No more tiers!” dominates workers’ strike meetings and assemblies.
Despite the obstacles, the difficulties, against the logics of compromise and submission, thousands of US industrial workers have taken to the road of struggle and are on strike. Thousands more are ready to take the step.
