On the eve of the UN General Assembly, the ITUC, a well-known partner of the monopolies and their governments, issued yet another token statement on Palestine. Full of lofty words about “peace” and “recognition of a Palestinian state,” but not a single word about:
- The genocide committed daily by the murderer state of Israel in Gaza.
- The blood of thousands of children and civilians spilled with weapons made in the US and EU.
- The blockade and occupation that are starving and thirsting an entire people.
The ITUC and its companions don’t even dare utter the words “murderer state.” They do not demand the severing of economic, military, or political ties with Israel. They do not denounce their governments and monopolies that fill Israeli planes and tanks with bombs and support the slaughter.
And how could they do otherwise? Over the ruins of Gaza and the tens of thousands of dead children and civilians, the murderer state advances the interests of the EU and the US in the region. After all, it is the ITUC itself that maintains close relations with the Zionist Histadrut, the “trade union” that supports the Israeli army, the occupation, the settlements, and the genocide.
The ITUC statement is just another fig leaf for itself and a laundromat for Israel and its imperialist allies. Its hypocrisy is outrageous. Instead of condemning the murderer state for its crimes, it speaks of “two equal parties” that must negotiate, as if Gaza, the West Bank, and the Palestinian people were not under occupation, as if it did not know that the people of Palestine face not only the state of Israel but also the imperialists of the US, EU, and NATO who back it.
The premeditated operation to level and annex Gaza, expand the settlements in the West Bank, and brutally displace the Palestinian people from their land aims to prevent the creation of an independent, free, viable Palestinian state, to push forward the plans of the monopolies. For this reason, the ITUC’s calls for governments to “commit themselves at the UN” are meaningless. For decades, UN resolutions have remained unimplemented, blocked by the very same governments that support the occupation. A telling example is the unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament in 2015 to recognize the Palestinian state, which, with the responsibility of all successive governments, has remained on paper to this day.
We denounce the ban imposed by the US government on the Palestinian delegation’s entry to the UN. We are not fooled by the hypocrisy and crocodile tears of those who support Israel and its allies within the workers’ movement. The peoples of the world are expressing their solidarity on a mass scale, defying repression. The workers of Europe are blocking Israeli war cargoes in the ports. Now is the time to further strengthen the solidarity of the working class and the trade unions with our brothers and sisters in Palestine.
- The immediate severance of all military, political, and economic relations of the Greek government with the murderer state of Israel.
- Recognition of the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
- The opening of all crossings to allow the passage of vital humanitarian aid.
- The immediate end to all operations aimed at the occupation of the Gaza Strip.
- The immediate cessation of genocide, occupation, and settlement expansion.
- The release of all Palestinian political prisoners.
- The end of all military, economic, and political cooperation with Israel.
- No participation of Greece in the imperialist plans of the US–NATO–EU.
- Freedom for Palestine!
