The ETUC bureaucrats whitewash the crimes of Israel and the EU with “Letters of Concern”

With a disgraceful “letter of concern” to the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, the leaderships of the European Trade Unions (ETUC, industriAll, UNI Europa, ETF, etc.) pretend to “worry” about the situation in Palestine. What they are really worried about is how to whitewash the EU from its criminal responsibilities and throw dust in the eyes of the workers about their own dirty role.

With heavy references to international law and human rights, behind pompous declarations and elaborate condemnations, they attempt to hide the essence: they do not denounce the murderous state of Israel, they do not name the USA, NATO, and the EU as responsible for the massacre. On the contrary, they beg the EU itself, the accomplice in the crime, to “take initiatives.”

The EU is neither “timid” nor a white dove of peace, as they try to present it. We all know the truth about what its “initiatives” really are and its responsibility in the massacre of the Palestinian people:

It is the EU that arms and financially supports Israel, that strengthens its war machine, that recognizes its “right to self-defense.” Over the ruins of Gaza and with more than 60,000 dead children and civilians, the murderous state advances the interests of the EU monopolies in the region.

It is the EU and its governments that criminalize solidarity mobilizations and persecute those who stand with the Palestinian people, using anti-terror laws and police-state repression. In cooperation with the Israeli propaganda machine, they label as “antisemitic” anyone who exposes the crimes of the murderous state and fights against the genocide in Gaza.

And when they talk about a “two-state solution,” they actually mean a phantom construct: cut and sewn to Israel’s measures, without sovereignty, without an army, without territorial unity; just scattered enclaves that maintain all the sources of injustice against the Palestinian people.

The ETUC bureaucrats are neither random nor innocent. Their role in promoting the EU’s plans is well known.

They are the permanent interlocutors of the EU, its governments, and European monopolies, the pillars of “social consensus” that load crises, wars, and poverty on the backs of the peoples.

They are close friends to and partners of the Zionist Histadrut Confederation, the “union” that props up the Israeli war machine of occupation, settlements, and genocide.

They are the same who align with the directions of the EU’s war economy of €850 billion in armaments, turning workers into cheap fuel for the needs of capital and imperialist wars.

Solidarity is not whitewashing letters to the EU.

Real solidarity is the struggle and action for a rupture with the capitalist system that breeds poverty and wars.

This solidarity with the people of Palestine and the peoples of the Middle East is given by the working class and its class-oriented unions in Greece and Europe:

In the streets, with rallies and demonstrations.

In the ports, by blocking the transfer of war material.

In workplaces, by exposing the involvement of governments, the EU, NATO, the USA, and monopolies in the genocide of the Palestinian people.

We show zero tolerance for the crime and for those who support it. We strengthen our solidarity with the heroic people of Palestine who stand tall and resist. We do not remain silent; we have chosen a side and we intensify our struggle to put an end to this crime.

No economic, political, or military cooperation with and support for the murderous state of Israel.

End now the unacceptable operation aiming at the occupation of the Gaza Strip.

Recognition of the Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with UN resolutions.

Open now all crossings to allow the necessary humanitarian aid to pass.

Freedom for Palestine!
