Solidarity with the workers of the London Underground and their strike action

Published on

PAME expresses its solidarity with the workers of the London Underground and their union RMT, who, from Friday, September 5th, are launching rolling strike actions, demanding wage increases, better working conditions, reduction of working hours, and health and safety measures to protect them from exhausting work schedules.
They are fighting for basic rights that safeguard their lives. They face the same attack that workers all over the world face: intensification of work, exhausting hours, violations of rights, an atmosphere of fear and repression.
Everywhere, capital and its governments attack workers, undermine collective agreements, cut wages, intensify work, increase working hours, and commodify essential public infrastructure in transport, health, social welfare, and education.
In Greece, in the context of war economy, the government is preparing to introduce a bill to Parliament that extends the working day to 13 hours, implementing EU directives. Our unions are being already in mobilizations and preparing a strike response against this monstrous bill that destroys workers’ lives for the
increase of businesses’ profitability.
In every NATO country, the goal is to meet the target of 5% of GDP for war spending and armaments. The precondition is cheap labour power and the silent acceptance by workers of our governments’ war plans, which result in the slaughter of peoples across the globe, with the peak of this crime being the genocide in Palestine by the murderous state of Israel.
The struggle of the London Underground workers concerns all workers. It shows the path of struggle, of collective demands against employer arbitrariness and intransigence, which endanger the safety and lives of workers and passengers for more profit.
The slogan “Their profits or our lives” expresses the true dilemma of our times.
PAME is sending a message of solidarity to the workers at the London Underground and their union, RMT:
Together we raise our voices for wage increases, for collective agreements, for the reduction of work hours, for health and safety measures, for jobs with rights, for lives with dignity, against the sacrifices demanded for the profits and wars of the imperialists.
Your struggle is our struggle!
