Solidarity with the General Secretary of UD CGT Nord, Jean-Paul Delescaut
PAME stands firmly with the UD CGT Nord of France and its General Secretary, Jean-Paul Delescaut, who has been sentenced to one year in prison simply for expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, a victim of the daily genocide carried out by the murderous state of Israel with the full support and backing of the USA–NATO–EU. On Tuesday, December 2, the Douai Court of Appeal will hear his case.
This prosecution is not an “isolated” incident. Across Europe, an orchestrated campaign is unfolding to silence and suppress the workers’ and people’s mobilizations in support of the people of Palestine. They criminalize solidarity with the peoples, label the denunciation of genocide and the crimes of the Israeli state as “terrorism,” and persecute trade unions and militants who expose the role of governments, the EU, and NATO as accomplices and co-perpetrators of genocide.
Repression goes hand-in-hand with the war preparations of the EU. The war economy demands silence, obedience, and sacrifices from workers. It is no coincidence that the Chief of the General Staff of the French Army recently spoke about “losses and sacrifices of our children,” nor that the Greek Minister of Defence stated that the people must “get used to coffins” of youth in a potential military conflict with Russia. These admissions reveal their plans and the depth of the dangerous involvement in the imperialist plans.
In the same direction there are prosecutions in Greece against the President of ENEDEP and Piraeus Regional Union, Markos Bekris, as well as other trade unionists who led the effort to stop the loading of military equipment destined for Israel to be used in the slaughter of Palestinian children. The governments of the EU, along with its mechanisms, intervene to crush every voice that defends the life and rights of the peoples.
Solidarity cannot be put on trial. The peoples have nothing to divide them. They share a common enemy: the governments and the imperialist unions that spread war, poverty, repression, and forced displacement.
PAME demands that all prosecutions against the UD CGT Nord and its General Secretary be immediately dropped. The struggle and solidarity with the heroic people of Palestine must be strengthened. The workers’ movement will not be intimidated.
History has a right side, with Palestine until freedom!
Terrorists are not the peoples; terrorists are the EU, USA, NATO, and the murderous state of Israel!
