PAME salutes the mobilisations of dockworkers at the port of San Antonio, Chile. Their struggle against the multinational DP World, the dismissals and the use of automation to eliminate jobs concerns workers in every port.

Corporations want ports to generate ever greater profits, with fewer workers, lower wages, more intensive work and fewer rights. They want ports to become links in the imperialists’ war machine.

Against corporate plans, we workers put forward our own militant plan, with organisation and internationalist solidarity. We fight for Collective Agreements, wage increases, stable and safe jobs. We demand that scientific and technological progress serve workers, reducing working hours without dismissals and improving health and safety at work.

A milestone in this common struggle is the 2nd International Day of Action of Dockworkers on October 30. Trade unions representing workers in more than 40 ports across Europe and the Mediterranean are organising militant action and strikes. They are bringing together the fight for wages, rights and job security with the fight to prevent ports from becoming staging grounds for wars that drown peoples in blood.

Across the world, from Chile to Greece, we are strengthening our common struggle against the profits of corporations and the imperialist wars of the USA, NATO and the EU.
