PAME calls on the Greek government to support the resolution at the UN General Assembly demanding the immediate end of the criminal blockade and embargo against Cuba

Published on

PAME, the Federations, Labour Centers, and Trade Unions of Greece, express their steadfast and unwavering solidarity with the heroic people of Cuba, who for more than six decades have resisted with dignity the criminal embargo imposed by the United States.

At a time when the UN General Assembly is once again preparing to adopt a resolution demanding the end of the imperialist blockade, Cuba is exposing the pressures and blackmail exerted by the U.S. government on other countries to dissuade them from supporting the resolution submitted by the Cuban government. Characteristically, in last year’s vote, 187 countries voted in favor of lifting the blockade, while only the United States and the murderous state of Israel dared to defend it by voting against.

Cuba stands at the forefront of solidarity with all peoples. Millions of workers around the world salute and express their gratitude to the Cuban people for their consistent internationalist and humanitarian contribution in the fields of Health, Education, and Culture. The struggles of the Cuban people, despite all hardships, are a symbol for workers’ struggles worldwide. The achievements of the Cuban people demonstrate the potential of a society without exploitation, where science and technology serve the needs and interests of the people.

PAME and the trade unions of our country demand the immediate and complete lifting of the blockade against Cuba. We express our solidarity with the Cuban people, the workers, and their trade unions, and we condemn every imperialist intervention, imposition, and threat against the right of every people to freely choose their own social and political system. We stand firmly by the side of the Cuban people who, despite all difficulties, continue to give lessons of dignity, internationalism, and solidarity.

We denounce the unacceptable machinations of the U.S. government that aim to continue the strangulation of the Cuban people. We call on the Greek government to maintain the longstanding position of our country at the United Nations and to support, with its affirmative vote, the resolution of the General Assembly for the just demand of the immediate lifting of the criminal blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
