The FECTRANS – Federation of Transport and Communications Unions and its Railway Union (SNTSF – National Union of Railway Workers), union structures of the CGTP-IN of Portugal, salute the Greek workers in struggle today, when 2 years have passed since the crime-train collision in Tempe, which claimed the lives of 57 people.

The capitalist policies transform public services provided to populations into instruments at the service of profit, in which people become just numbers, so that the important thing is profits and that is why we are witnessing the degradation of important public services.

Given this, it is the workers who have to take into their own hands the defense of a public service, with workers, at the service of people, because they must come first.

A fraternal and militant greeting to your struggle, which is also the one we develop publicly, the defense of a public railway service at the service of the populations and the country.

The fight continues

We, 3F BJMF and 3F Copenhagen, express our deepest solidarity with the Greek people on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the tragic train accident in Tempi, where many innocent lives were lost. This massacre, which has left deep wounds in society, is a tragic result of systematic neglect and lack of investment in public infrastructure that has jeopardised both human lives and rights.

We stand with the Greek workers and people who are today organising a general strike in their fight for justice, responsibility and better conditions. Their resistance is not only a defence of the victims who have suffered, but also a necessary demand that the government and responsible bodies take their responsibilities seriously and act quickly to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

This strike is a symbol of hope and a struggle for change – a struggle for a society where people and their lives come before corporate profits. We recognise the resistance of the Greek people to the cuts and privatisations that have made the public system weaker and less secure. We support their demands for decent working conditions, better security and a sustainable future.

We stand with the Greek people, and in particular the Greek working class, in the struggle for a society where human life and welfare are not sacrificed for profit and political incompetence.

The true cause of the train accident in Tempe and all 57 victims of human lives must be clarified. Nothing must be hidden by the private interests of capital. Stop the liberalization and privatization of public services and transport. Strict compliance with occupational safety and operating regulations.

Stop war budgets and weapons spending at the expense of healthcare, education and social care.
