78 years since the Nakba

Victory to the struggle of the heroic Palestinian people!

78 years have passed since the Nakba, the violent uprooting of the Palestinian people from their land, their homes, their villages, their very homeland, in 1948. The history of Palestine is a history of occupation, exile, settlements, imprisonments, murders, blockades, but also of the uninterrupted struggle of its heroic people.

The Nakba continues with the military occupation, with the seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank and Gaza, with the illegal settlements, with the imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians, with the genocide of the people of Gaza by the murderous state of Israel. It continues in the destroyed hospitals, in the schools turned into graves, in the mothers holding their dead children, in the children born among the ruins, in the thousands of refugees once again forced onto the road of displacement within their own land.

Israel, with the full support of the USA, NATO and the EU, is trying to impose their plans in the region through fire and steel. In Gaza, the plan to turn it into a US-Israeli protectorate continues, along with the effort to crush every right of the Palestinian people to a free and independent homeland, within the framework of various imperialist plans, such as the so-called “New Middle East.”

The New Democracy government is also complicit. It continues the policy of the PASOK and SYRIZA governments, expanding and deepening military, economic and political cooperation with Israel. It actively participates in the war plans of the USA, NATO and the EU. It turns the country into a war base and a target for retaliation, with military bases, ports, airports, infrastructure, weapons systems and military personnel placed at the service of the US-Israeli imperialist war in the Middle East for the slaughter of the peoples of Palestine, Iran and Lebanon.

The working class of Greece stands on the right side of history, with the peoples who struggle against imperialist aggression, with the Palestinian people and their just struggle to obtain a free and independent homeland. The unanimous decision of the Greek Parliament of December 2015 must now be implemented, and the government must proceed with the official recognition of the Palestinian State.

The 78th anniversary of the Nakba is a call to further strengthen the struggle in the workplaces. To strengthen the demand for an end to any involvement of our country in the imperialist crime. To express solidarity with the Palestinian people more decisively. To generalize the example of the dockworkers who, together with the people of Piraeus, blocked the war cargoes of death and sent the message that workers will not become accomplices in the slaughter of peoples. Let the slogan be heard everywhere: Freedom for Palestine!

  • End the Israeli occupation now and withdraw the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip and all Palestinian territories.
  • Immediate release of all Palestinian and other political prisoners held in Israeli prisons.
  • The right of return for all Palestinian refugees to their homes, based on the relevant UN resolutions.
  • Establishment of a single independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, within the borders prior to June 1967.
