We are human beings, not machines.
The bill of dehumanization is rejected!
Today’s nationwide general strike sent a clear message: the New Democracy government’s bill for the dehumanization of workers is rejected. This was confirmed by the massive participation in the strike, by the shutdown of hundreds of factories and other workplaces, and by the huge strike demonstrations. This monstrosity, which implements the EU directives on “working time flexibility” and further unleashes the inhuman appetites of the employers, must not dare to reach Parliament. Our response will be even stronger with a new general strike!
The massive participation in the strike and the rallies expresses the accumulated anger that exists against the whole anti-people policy which has turned workplaces into arenas of death. Against the soaring prices that devour people’s income, against the health system turned into an expensive commodity, against schools that opened with thousands of vacancies and unbearable costs for the education of our children. Against the slashed pensions that are not enough for a dignified life in old age.
It also expressed opposition to our country’s involvement in bloody imperialist wars and to the support of the Greek government for the butcher Netanyahu and the murderous state of Israel, which is committing genocide against the Palestinian people. Opposition to the bloated state budgets for NATO’s war expenditures while human life is deemed disposable, as proven by the crime in Tempi.
Today, more than 400 unions expressed their indignation at the government–justice cover-up that denies the families of the victims, and hunger striker Panos Routsis, the right to exhume their children to investigate the causes of their death. The game is rigged. Justice will be imposed by our struggle! We are with them until the end!
Now the fight must be strengthened even more decisively for a life with modern rights, against exploitation and the barbarity of war. For 7-hour workday – 5-day week – 35-hour workweek with wage and pension increases, as permitted by the development of science and productive forces. For state funding of health, education, and social welfare, not for the slaughterhouses of war.
Everyone in the unions, everyone in the struggle. We will escalate with a new strike if the government dares to bring this new anti-labour monstrosity to Parliament.
